Vietnam’s border with China has many important border gates, but not everyone knows the current list of border gates. This can make it difficult to choose a time-saving and cost-effective freight route. Below, HDG Logistics provides a complete and updated list of Vietnam – China border gates to support businesses with useful information.
Border gates play a key role in promoting trade and economic cooperation between Vietnam and China. Goods are transported through border gates mainly by road, with border-gate economic zones enjoying many tax, investment and customs incentives, creating favorable conditions for businesses to do business and import and export.
According to Decision No. 1199/QD-TTg, by 2030, the Vietnam-China border is expected to have 26 border gates, including 14 international border gates, 12 bilateral border gates (including 20 customs clearance routes/specialized roads for transporting goods) and 1 open/special border gate. In the period of 2021–2030, Vietnam will open and upgrade 8 international border gates, 9 bilateral border gates, 17 customs clearance/specialized roads, and 1 open/special border gate.

Vietnam – China international border gate
According to Article 4 of Decree 112/2014/ND-CP, international border gates allow people and vehicles of Vietnam as well as foreign countries to enter and exit, along with import and export goods and articles.
Huu Nghi Border Gate (Lang Son)
Located in Dong Dang town, Cao Loc district, Lang Son province, 17 km from Lang Son city and 171 km from Hanoi, Huu Nghi border gate is an important connection point with Huu Nghi Quan border gate (Phong Thanh, Guangxi, China). This is a key border gate in the economic corridor of Nanning – Lang Son – Hanoi – Hai Phong, promoting trade, tourism and culture between Vietnam, China and ASEAN.
Mong Cai Border Gate (Quang Ninh)
Located in Hoa Lac Ward, Mong Cai City, Quang Ninh Province, Mong Cai Border Gate trades with Dong Hung Border Gate (Guangxi, China). This is one of the busiest border gates, with import and export turnover reaching more than 2.8 billion USD in the first 9 months of 2023 (up 6.5% over the same period in 2022). The main items include agricultural products, food, household appliances and electrical appliances. Ta Lung border gate (Cao Bang)
Located in Tan Thinh residential group, Ta Lung town, Quang Hoa district, Cao Bang province, Ta Lung border gate is connected to Shui Kou border gate (Long Chau, Guangxi, China). This is an important border gate in Cao Bang border gate economic zone, operating from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Vietnam) and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (China).
Lao Cai – Hakou Border Gate (Yunnan)
Located in Lao Cai Ward, Lao Cai City, this border gate connects to Hakou Border Gate (Yunnan, China) through Huqiao Bridge across the Nam Thi River. Lao Cai border gate plays a major role in Vietnam-China-ASEAN trade, contributing to the socio-economic development of Lao Cai province.
Ban Vuoc Border Gate (Lao Cai)
Located in Ban Vuoc commune, Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province, 80 km from Lao Cai city, this border gate was upgraded to an international border gate on October 14, 2023. Communicating with the Pa Sa border gate (Guangxi, China), Ban Vuoc mainly exports agricultural products such as bananas, dragon fruits, watermelons and imports fertilizers and machinery.
Muong Khuong Border Gate (Lao Cai)
Located in Muong Khuong town and Tung Chung Pho commune, Muong Khuong district, Lao Cai province, this border gate communicates with Kieu Tau border gate (Yunnan, China). As a national border gate of type II, Muong Khuong exports yellow phosphorus, plywood, agricultural products and imports fertilizers, coke and clothing.
Tra Linh Border Gate (Cao Bang)
Located in Tra Linh Town, Chongqing District, Cao Bang Province, Tra Linh Border Gate trades with Long Bang Border Gate (Guangxi, China). Upgraded to an international border gate on December 28, 2023, Tra Linh exports coal, ore, agricultural products and imports petroleum, mechanism.
Ma Lu Hang Border Gate (Lai Chau)
Located in Ma Ly Pho Commune, Feng Tho District, Lai Chau Province, this border gate is connected to Kim Thuy Ha Border Gate (Yunnan, China). Upgraded to an international border gate in 2020, Ma Lu Hang is the starting point of National Highway 12, 50 km from Lai Chau city.
Thanh Thuy Border Gate (Ha Giang)
Located in Thanh Thuy Commune, Vi Xuyen District, Ha Giang Province, this border gate is connected to Thien Bao Border Gate (Yunnan, China). Upgraded to an international border gate in February 2014, Thanh Thuy is the only international border gate of Ha Giang, with a stable growth in import and export turnover.
Bilateral border gates and secondary border gates between Vietnam and China
According to Clause 2, Article 1 of Decree 34/2023/ND-CP (effective from 31/07/2023), the main (bilateral) border gate allows people, vehicles and goods of Vietnam and neighboring countries to enter and exit; secondary border gates for people, vehicles and goods of border provinces.
Chi Ma border gate (Lang Son)
Located in Yen Khoai commune, Loc Binh district, Lang Son province, 36 km from Lang Son city, Chi Ma border gate communicates with Ai Diem border gate (Guangxi, China). Upgraded to a national border gate in 2023, Chi Ma exports agricultural products (dragon fruit, lychee), minerals and handicrafts.
Po Peo Border Gate (Cao Bang)
Located in Na Han Village, Ngoc Con Commune, Chongqing District, Cao Bang Province, Po Peo Border Gate is connected to Yue Vu Border Gate (Guangxi, China). Upgraded to a national border gate in 2002, Po Peo is located on the Southeast Asia – Southwest China economic corridor.
A Pa Chai Border Gate (Dien Bien)
Located in Ta Mieu village, Sin Thuu commune, Muong Nhe district, Dien Bien province, this border gate is connected to Long Phu border gate (Yunnan, China). A Pa Chai mainly serves the import and export of small quotas with items such as agricultural products, forest products and handicrafts.
Hoanh Mo Border Gate (Quang Ninh)
Located in Hoanh Mo and Dong Van communes, Binh Lieu district, Quang Ninh province, this border gate communicates with Dong Trung border gate (Guangxi, China). Upgraded to the main border gate in 2012, Hoanh Mo operates from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., supporting trade and regional economic development.
Bac Phong Sinh Border Gate (Quang Ninh)
Located in Quang Duc Commune, Hai Ha District, Quang Ninh Province, this border gate is connected to Ly Hoa border gate (Guangxi, China). Upgraded to an international border gate under Decision 115/2002/QD-TTg, Bac Phong Sinh promotes trade and tourism.
Tan Thanh Border Gate (Lang Son)
Located in Na Lau village, Tan Thanh commune, Van Lang district, Lang Son province, 28 km from Lang Son city, Tan Thanh border gate is a busy customs clearance point, especially for agricultural products. Established in 2006, Tan Thanh is an important secondary border gate in Vietnam-China trade.
Po Nhung Border Gate (Lang Son)
Located in Bao Lam Commune, Cao Loc District, Lang Son Province, Po Nhung (or Bao Lam) border gate communicates with Dau Ai border gate (Guangxi, China). Upgraded to a national border gate in 2002, Po Nhung exports agricultural products, forest products and imports machinery, consumer goods.
Soc Giang Border Gate (Cao Bang)
Located in Coc Nguu village, Soc Ha commune, Ha Quang district, Cao Bang province, this border gate is connected to Binh Mang border gate (Guangxi, China). Soc Giang mainly exports agricultural and forest products and imports machinery and consumer goods.
Sam Pun Border Gate (Ha Giang)
Located in Thuong Phung Commune, Meo Vac District, Ha Giang Province, this border gate is connected to Dien Bong Border Gate (Yunnan, China). Upgraded to a national border gate in October 2023, Sam Pun mainly serves sub-quota import and export.
Xin Man Border Gate (Ha Giang)
Located in Xin Man Commune, Xin Man District, Ha Giang Province, this border gate is connected to Do Long Border Gate (Yunnan, China). Known as the “Northwest Gate of Heaven”, Xin Man supports trade and tourism with a majestic landscape.
