Passion fruit is a fruit with high nutritional value, and is favored by many people. Vietnam is one of the world’s largest producers of passion fruit, with an annual production of about 250,000 tons. Vietnamese passion fruit is exported to over 50 countries and territories around the world.
Passion fruit export conditions
According to the law, passion fruit is an item subject to phytosanitary before export. Passion fruit exporters need to meet the following conditions:
- Have a business registration license issued by a competent authority.
- Have a phytosanitary certificate issued by a phytosanitary authority.

Plant quarantine procedures for exporting passion fruit
Exporters of passion fruit must submit their plant quarantine application to the regional plant quarantine office under the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. The plant quarantine application dossier includes:
- Plant quarantine registration form (standard form)
- Packing list
- Power of attorney for delegated inspection procedures (if any)
- Samples of the export batch of passion fruit.
Customs procedures After obtaining the phytosanitary certificate, the exporter must carry out customs procedures at the customs office at the border gate. The export customs dossier for passion fruit includes:
- Customs declaration
- Commercial invoice
- Sales contract (if any)
- Bill of lading – Cargo manifest
- Packing list
- Phytosanitary certificate.
Quality and food safety requirements for exported passion fruit Exported passion fruit must meet the following quality and food safety requirements:
- The fruit must be fresh, intact, free from damage, rot, and have a distinctive aroma.
- The passion fruit peel must have a natural color and be free from pests.
- The passion fruit flesh must be pale yellow and not too sour or too sweet.
- The sugar content in the passion fruit flesh must be at least 8%.
- The citric acid content in the passion fruit flesh must be at least 0.6%.
- The level of pesticide residues in passion fruit must be safe according to legal regulations.
